Revelation 21:6 — The Spring of Living Water
Revelation 21:6
"He said to me: 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.'"
— Revelation 21:6 (NIV)
Reflection
Every longing heart seeks completion, an end to struggle and a taste of lasting peace. Revelation 21:6 speaks into that thirst with words of finality and fulfilment. God declares, It is done. His purposes reach their conclusion, and the story of redemption stands complete. For those who thirst, He offers the water of life freely, without cost. What grief has taken, God restores with life that never ends.
This promise cuts through despair. You may feel empty, but emptiness will not have the final word. You may ache with thirst, but God Himself provides the spring. No payment is required because Christ has already paid in full. The Alpha and the Omega, the One who begins and ends all things, ensures that no believer will be left unsatisfied. To the weary, He offers refreshment that no earthly source can rival.
These words remind you that grief and loss are not the closing chapter. The eternal God has written a conclusion filled with life, abundance, and satisfaction for those who come to Him thirsty.
Biblical Insight
Revelation 21 describes the new heaven and new earth, where God dwells with His people and wipes every tear from their eyes. Verse 6 confirms that God's saving work has reached its goal. The declaration "It is done" recalls Jesus' cry from the cross, "It is finished." The water of life links back to promises made throughout Scripture, from Isaiah's invitation to the thirsty to Jesus' offer of living water in John 4. Here, at the close of the biblical story, God Himself guarantees the fulfilment of those promises.
In Application
- When loss makes life feel incomplete, remind yourself that God has already secured the ending: "It is done."
- Come to Him with your thirst. Pray openly about what feels lacking, and ask Him to refresh you with His presence.
- Fix your hope not on temporary relief but on the eternal satisfaction promised at the spring of life.
Practical Journaling
Reflect on Revelation 21:6, then write honestly:
- Where do you feel most thirsty for peace, comfort, or hope today?
- How does the promise of free living water change the way you view your current grief?
- What does God's declaration It is done mean to you in light of your own losses?
Take as much time as you need with this exercise, and if writing feels too difficult today, simply holding these questions in prayer is enough.
